Support, maintenance, and ad hoc help
I used to freak out about web stuff. Because I know next to nothing about it. And hiring someone to handle something that’s such a critical part of my business is a big thing.
Since finding Kate I have zero freak outs.
She’s brilliant at what she does. Highly skilled. Wildly efficient. Capable of working web-ey miracles.
But, beyond that, she has managed to make every single thing feel totally doable, even stuff I thought would be a huge, complicated ordeal.
So not only do I appreciate what Kate does, but I’m also crazy grateful for how she does it. She serves up her amazing know-how with the perfect mix of patience, kindness and a genuine sense of support.
I can’t even tell you how much it means to have a reliable web person. It’s a HUGE relief. Thanks Kate!

I build your website with WordPress, the world's best-loved content management system – which means you'll be able to edit and update your site yourself. (More about WordPress.) I even have tutorial videos to show you how to use it.
But sometimes, you might want a little extra help, or you're busy and you'd rather someone else did things for you. Here are some options for those times.
Ad hoc support
This is where you drop me a line as-and-when and ask me to do something for you. You can hire me in an ad hoc way like this at a rate of £50 an hour. I bill you at the end of the month, rounding up to the nearest whole hour.
Bear in mind that because ad hoc work is by definition unpredictable, I may not be able to do your work straight away. But I'll always do it as soon as I can, and of course I'll let you know when I expect that to be.
Pre-paid support
Another option is to buy some support time in advance. In this case, you still call me up as-and-when, just as with the ad hoc work, and I just mark off your time as you use it.
The more time you buy in advance, the less it costs:
- 1 hour: £50
- 3 hours: £145
- 5 hours: £225
- 10 hours: £400
Maintenance agreements
If you need a certain amount of work done regularly, then we can talk about an ongoing maintenance agreement. For example, we could agree that I would work just for you every Monday afternoon. If you're interested in that kind of agreement, drop me a line, and we'll have a chat and see what we can work out.
What can I use my support time for?
Any of my regular services, plus general WordPress tasks. It may be that you're perfectly happy adding your own posts and editing pages, but that you'd like a hand with installing plugins, or upgrading to a new version of WordPress, or making small tweaks to the design of your site. It may be that you need some custom design work – a banner or similar. It may be that you're very busy, and would like me to post your blog entries for you. You're also welcome to use it for general advice about anything internet related.
What if I have an emergency?
Unfortunately, because I'm just one woman, I can't offer emergency support. For that, I'd need a team on stand-by! If you have an urgent problem, you're very welcome to contact me, and if I can help I will (the ad hoc rates apply, unless it's out of office hours, in which case the rate is double). But I can't guarantee that I'll be available.
If you have an emergency and I'm not available, here are a couple of other people you can try:
- Neil Matthews of WP Dude runs a WordPress helpdesk. He can help you with all kinds of WordPress tasks, fix broken things, and all kinds of other helpful stuff.
- WP Help Center run genuine emergency support.
