Phew! Worry-free websites for businesses on a budget
What about hosting and domain? How much does it cost?
Phew! is designed to make your life as easy as possible, so I'll set up your hosting and domain name for you. The hosting company I use is Hostgator – I'll tell you why in a mo.
How much does it cost?
The cost of a .com, .org or .net domain name, for one year, is usually about $15 (that's about £10). If you'd like another kind of domain name, let me know and I'll let you know how much it'll cost.
For hosting, Hostgator's smallest package (Hatchling) has everything you need, and costs $8.95 a month – that's about £5.40.
Or, if you'd like to save some money, you can pay for a year, two years, or three years in advance, which works out cheaper in the long run (as per the chart below).
| Cost: (paid in advance) | Which works out to: | |
|---|---|---|
| One year | $83.40 | $6.95 a month |
| Two years | $142.80 | $5.95 a month |
| Three years | $178.20 | $4.95 a month |
So do I own my account?
Yes, absolutely. Your hosting and domain are set up in your name, so they belong entirely to you. You will have all the account information and log in details, so you're not dependent on me if you want to change things later.
Why Hostgator?
I've worked with a lot of hosting providers over the years, and Hostgator are the ones I like best.
- They have great support. You can get support by phone, email, or online chat – which means you can speak to someone immediately, whenever you need to.
- They are completely compatible with WordPress. This is less common than you'd think! I won't bore you with the techie stuff, but suffice to say that there are lots of companies who claim to meet the requirements, but turn out to be a nightmare.
- Green energy! Their servers are 130% wind powered. (More about this)
- They place no limits on the size of your site, so you'll never find yourself banging your head on the ceiling.
- The HostGator control panel is the easiest to use that I know.
- And, of course, their prices are incredibly affordable.
And if in the future your business expands and you want to run multiple sites, or a huge web application, you won't need to change hosts. Even their smallest package offers unlimited databases and email accounts, and the next package up, which is just one extra dollar a month, allows you to host multiple domains – as many sites as you like on the same account.
