Helping you shoot for the moon

About Artemis

Kate

One day I will get a proper photo done. But I'm camera shy!

Hello! I'm Kate, and I'm the web designer behind Artemis.

I used to be lead designer for a mainstream web design company, where I spent my time pretending not to be a hippie and stifling my screams when people threw around corporate buzzwords.

Then I couldn't take it any more, and went travelling round the world.

And then I realised that I was allowed to be both a web designer and a hippie, and that there are lots of small business owners out there who are interested in passion and contribution and authenticity as well as making a living. And that those people would welcome a web designer who sees things the same way, and who knows that marketing has a light side as well as a dark side.

So I set up Artemis, a web design business for people who are following that wonderful, scary path that we walk when we decide to answer our calling, do our heart's work, live consciously, or whatever else you want to call it. I salute all such brave souls, wish you huge success, and sincerely hope that I can be of help to you along the way.

And now there are exciting new developments afoot! Things got so busy that I decided I needed a little help. And so I've recruited my fellow corporate-refugee Martin to come and give me a hand. He's an impossibly nice guy, and a very clever man, and is going to be the Artemis lovely-person-in-residence, looking after you through every step of the website creation process. And two exciting side benefits is that this means we may soon be able to offer a wider range of support options, and some extra technical wizardry. So watch this space!

About Martin

Martin

Martin is also camera shy, and doesn't know I've stolen this photo from his Facebook account. :) Kate.

Hi, I'm Martin. I am the new addition to Artemis, and will be working on support, admin, and looking after you!

I have worked as a developer and a manager of other developers, mostly in a large corporation. I have developed new things as well as working as 3rd line support – which is, for those of you who are not experts in corporate culture, the team of people who can actually solve a problem, but who are safe from talking to customers hidden behind two other support teams. I could go on in great detail, but this isn't my CV, and so all I really need to add is that while I was quite good at it all, it wasn't very satisfying, and I left it behind to find a new direction for my life.

So, when Kate told me she needed some help with Artemis Design, I persuaded her to take me on. I thoroughly look forward to being able to help people directly again, and get involved in projects I can get truly enthusiastic about.

If you want to know a bit more about me, I am:

  • An enthusiastic jogger
  • An amateur philosopher
  • An ex-physicist
  • A writer of speculative fiction
  • A reformed travel-junkie
  • A scuba diver
  • A glider pilot
  • A roleplayer
  • Blessed with amazing friends

Amongst the many things I love are:

  • Chocolate
  • Frances Hardinge
  • Girl Genius
  • Walter Jon Williams
  • The Green Bay Packers
  • Daniel Goleman
  • Daniel C Dennett
  • Cooperative boardgames
  • Growing things
  • Thai food
  • End-of-the-world survival plans (reading other people's, not actually living them)
